Twilight Zone

Bally 1993

Following the huge success of The Addams Family, Bally gave Pat Lawlor full creative control over his next game. Lawlor famously described it as having “flippers that aren’t flippers, pinballs that aren’t pinballs, and a clock that isn’t a clock.” It incorporated more features and patents than any previous pinball machine.

When I own multiples of the same title, I always keep the best example for my personal collection. My priority in any restoration is to start with the best original playfield possible. This machine represents the last—and best—of the Twilight Zone games I hoarded. While I may eventually own another, this was my final pick of the litter.

The original playfield was completely stripped top and bottom-no small task. It was deep-cleaned, the black borders around the playfield inserts were touched up, and the surface was finished with a two-part automotive clearcoat. All worn components were replaced with new parts, with the goal of making the game look and play like new.

Cabinet restoration is equally demanding; preparation is what matters most. This includes surface smoothing, precise decal registration, premium materials, and attention to areas often ignored—the bottom, back, and interior. The result is a machine that holds a special place in my collection, anchored by a gorgeous original playfield.
