Monster Bash
Williams 1998
For someone my age, who grew up watching all the old monster movies, this was a must-have. The game features six Universal Monsters, namely the Creature from the Black Lagoon, the Wolf Man, Frankenstein’s monster, the Bride of Frankenstein, Dracula, and the Mummy. The game was a major moneymaker and an instant hit with pinball fans.
It was so popular that, in October 2018, Chicago Gaming Company released three new editions of Monster Bash: Monster Bash Classic, Monster Bash Special Edition, and Monster Bash Limited Edition. But a true pinball aficionado like myself wants the original!
The highlights of this restoration are the original playfield, which has gone through an extensive process of disassembly, automotive clearcoat, and reassembly with loads of new parts. The upgrades include the Color DMD, which converts the score display to color. Anti-reflection playfield glass is another. These two options alone cost in the $700–$800 range, depending on which glass you choose.
The other upgrade I like to do on all my games is converting from incandescent bulbs to LEDs. They reduce heat buildup, but more importantly, they rarely burn out and last almost indefinitely. After many years of experimentation, I knew which ones would deliver the effect I was looking for.
