Indiana Jones

Williams 1993

Indiana Jones: The Pinball Adventure is a 1993 widebody pinball game designed by Mark Ritchie (the younger brother of acclaimed pinball designer Steve Ritchie) and released by Williams. It is based on the first three Indiana Jones movies and is the second of Williams’ SuperPin series of widebody games, released after The Twilight Zone and before Star Trek: The Next Generation.

I’m going to have to give the game a good inspection and come up with a game plan. If the playfield meets my requirements for restoration, I always prefer keeping an original playfield in a game. To be a good candidate for restoration, the paint needs to be intact, vibrant, and unblemished. As long as the inserts are tight and level, I will address touching up what are called the key lines—the black border around the lenses routed into the playfield that the light shines through. Once it’s clearcoated properly, the touch-ups are protected, and the playfield is allowed to cure for a while before final sanding and polishing.

The majority of the time, the cabinet will likely need new graphics. It is very rare that original cabinet artwork can be saved. Indiana Jones, in particular, is prone to fading due to the colors used. The good news is there are high-quality decals available, and once they are installed properly, the cabinet truly looks like new.

To be determined…
